Mrs. Barbara Filichia
Piano Faculty & Early Childhood Education
Meet our Teacher
Barbara Filichia is a seasoned music educator having shared her love of music with children of all ages from infants through high school. Her personal musical journey began as a child with trips to hear the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and a love of Mozart piano sonatas.
She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Brigham Young University and a Masters of Education in Teaching from Azusa Pacific University. Certificated as a K-12 music instructor through the State of California, Barbara teaches elementary music with Burbank Unified School District. Mentored by Jerry Jaccard and Katinka Daniel, she holds certifications in Kodály music education and Orff Schulwerk. She studied piano with Irene Peery-Fox, Jeffrey Shumway and Dian Baker. Her piano students have gone on to study at Julliard, Eastman School of Music, and Brigham Young University.
Her philosophy of music education is that life is meant to be lived with music. Technique, artistry, and musical expression are incorporated into her teaching style. All children should have access to the beauty, joy, and self-discovery that comes through creating and experiencing music. The ultimate goal for her students is that they develop a love of music that lasts a lifetime.
