Meet Our Founder

Rufus Choi

Rufus Choi is an internationally acclaimed concert pianist and educator whose artistry and mentorship have made a lasting impact on the global music community. A laureate of the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition and numerous other prestigious contests,Choi has graced the stages of Carnegie Hall, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, and major venues throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Educated at The Juilliard School and in Hanover Germany at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien, Choi was shaped by legendary pedagogues who instilled in him a deep respect for tone, technique, and expressive authenticity. His playing is known for its emotional power and technical brilliance—but it is his role as a teacher that brings him the greatest fulfillment.

Choi founded Salit Conservatory to reimagine the traditional model of classical music instruction. His vision was clear: to create a structured, supportive environment where students could thrive artistically and personally. At the heart of his teaching philosophy is the belief that music is more than a skill—it’s a language of thought and feeling. Through attentive listening, physical freedom, and a strong technical foundation, Choi encourages students to discover their own voice.

At Salit, Choi works closely with each faculty member to ensure a unified approach to pedagogy, rooted in clarity, expression, and high-level musicianship. His influence is felt in every course, every performance, and every student’s journey—from the first notes of a beginner to the artistic breakthroughs of advanced players.

Whether guiding a professional musician or nurturing a child’s first musical steps, Rufus Choi’s passion remains the same: to share the transformative power of music, and to help others grow through its discipline, beauty, and joy.
